Payne And Amanda’s

American TV has had a few stabs at remaking Fawlty Towers, including this one, by CBS, in 1999, starring John Larroquette as the eponymous Payne. It lasted for eight episodes (plus one that went unaired), and was initially quite well received.

This first episode was written by Gail Parent, but the pilot, which aired as episode five, was based on the scripts for Gourmet Night and The Hotel Inspectors.

The rest of the run seems to be on YouTube should you fancy watching it.

As an added bonus, here’s the first episode of the 1983 version, starring Bea Arthur, and called Amanda’s. This one was made by CBS but aired on ABC, and lasted 10 episodes, with 3 more unaired.
