John Lloyd’s Newsround

Here’s an interesting curio. The pilot for Have I Got News For You, described by Paul Merton as ‘a disaster’, was called John Lloyd’s Newsround. As you can see, Lloyd was the host, but pretty much everything else was in place. This clip doesn’t feel that much different to me than the first series.

The reference in the title could never have lasted, but it’s fasincating to see that set bearing a remarkable similarity to the QI set. Apparently Armando Iannucci was asked to produce the show, but he passed because he had too many radio commitments.
