Created by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, the show aired on BBC One from 1986 to 1991. It had some serial, soap-like elements, which may have accounted for its large viewing figures. It’s charming, and worth a revisit.
I wish I could find the Comic Relief sketch from 1989 featuring Karl Howman and Howard Lew Lewis, but I can’t.
As far as I know, we never learn Jacko’s full name.
Maybe Jacko is a nickname for Jack or John. Or maybe it’s a shortened version of his surname Jackson. Here’s some more possibilities.
