In the 80s, and part of the 90s, most weeks we would go and visit my Gran and Grandpa in Bristol.
Sometime in the eary part of 1984, I stayed in and played with the solitaire marbles, or played tiddly winks with my brother – I know realise this was actually a toy roulette set, and we used the betting chips, flicking them into the ‘bowl’, which was actually the roulette wheel sans wheel.
Meanwhile, my older brother and sister went for a walk down the Gloucester Road with my granddad.
Upon their return, they were all a flutter of excitement, because they had wandered into the OB filming of a TV show.
Namely this bit, of that TV show.
Yup, that’s right, my sister and brother got to see that being filmed, and even had a chance to buy some autograph books and have them signed by all four of the Bachelor Boys.
I have a vague memory of seeing some photos a while later of Vyvyan’s car too.
All of those autographs and photos promptly got lost, never to be seen again.
This is enough of a crap anecdote in and of itself, but it got me thinking some more.
I have no memory of seeing the first series of The Young Ones until I bought them on VHS in the early 1990s. I always thought my first exposure to the series was series two.
Except, I definitely remember being really excited that my brother and sister had met The Young Ones from the telly show I watched.
Even though they met them as they filmed series 2.
Time and my brain are both stupid creatures.
