David Letterman On The Jon Stewart Show

On the 23rd June 1995, David Letterman appeared on the very last edition of The Jon Stewart Show, being a great guest in what looks like an early version of the Top Gear set. Here’s the whole of that final show.

Some background.

The show began as a 30 minute talk show on MTV, airing daily thoughout 1993. When Arsenio Hall stepped down from his syndicated show, and because Viacom had just purchased Paramount Communications, they retooled the show and relaunched it as a syndicated one instead.

The penultimate episode featured Marilyn Manson, who set a bible on fire. This convinced the suits to cancel the show, and the next night was the final episode. Shortly after this, Stewart signed a holding deal with Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants Inc.
